Excursions
So … what about a walk up through the Tessa Group Nature Park which covers 33,000 hectares and is the largest of South Tyrol’s seven natural parks.
Or, maybe you’d prefer more of a challenge and head off for the 90km. long Merano High Path which meanders its way along the perimeter of the Tessalungo Mountain Group.
Then, there’s the specially designed Meditation Path, featuring various tracts, which is bordered by the typical woodland scenery of Monte Tramontana. The perfect place for rest, relaxation and meditation.
You might well choose to hike through shady, thick woods from one farmhouse to the next on Monte Tramontana at the foot of the Guardia Alta, Naturno’s very own mountain, and sample some delicious home-made local specialities.
There are many flat, easy walks along the bubbling irrigation channels which were built by local farmers and hug the mountain sides of the whole area. These so-called Waalweg paths have a long history and are part and parcel of the culture and traditions of the valleys of South Tyrol.
You might like to take a local taxi to further-afield places of interest , hop into a cable-car or chair-lift to the starting point of many clearly-marked and well-maintained mountain paths or hire the services of a qualified local guide to accompany you and your family on themed trips including nature walks to see some of the wild animals which live in the region, visits of culinary interest, excursions up to nearby glaciers or trekking with a herd of lama for company.
Biking
Cycling has become one of the most popular of all sports in Naturno in recent years. The cycle path which starts at the end of the Val Venosta and will end up at Lake Garda is almost finished and the town has its very own Bike Park where you can learn cycling techniques and improve your style. There is an interesting weekly programme, guided tours for beginners and experts alike, GPS Track Up-Loads, a GPS rental service and a fantastic selection of weekly offers to attract cycling fans of all ages.
We really do have everything for cyclists from guided tours through the valley fruit orchards to the classic Transalp events at high altitude and special offers for racing and mountain bikes as well as a choice of tours along the lower slopes on both sides of the valley. The natural features of Monte Sole and Monte Tramontana are very different from each other and both have various tracks and paths just waiting for you to explore. Naturno gets 315 days of sunshine a year which makes it a great place for cycling fans to explore at any time from February through to November.
Naturno and its surroundings also offer great cycling possibilities for the whole family. There’s a Bike Shuttle from the town up to Lake Resia and down to nearby Merano and another shuttle to take you and your bikes to the Venosta Valley cycle track which heads downhill to Merano where a third shuttle which will bring you back to Naturno if you want.
Naturno also has three specialist cycle shops which offer rental and repair services, expert help and advice and a wide range of spare-parts, cycling clothing and accessories.
